Customer Reviews

Great! Finally a toy that my baby thinks it is a real one, no other toys I have tried actually made him stay away from the real tv controllers, this one does not look much kiddy, my baby for some reason avoids kid toys and craves adult like stuff, this one I left it with the real ones, he went to grab them as usual, I said no and took the real ones away making it look like I forgot this VTech behind, he kept watching it, I said no again and he grabbed it.Started playing with it and I kept doing the same as it wasn't meant for him, he fell for it and always goes grab the vtech and keeps it.Strategy did not work with other toys, this one did make the deal easier. 5A great substitute for the real thing!I know I'm not the only parent out there who was looking for a distraction from the real remote! This toy has worked well so far -- it's appearance, light up features, and remote-like buttons have convinced our 6 month old that this remote must surely be just as yummy as the real thing. I really like that there are no stickers that could easily peel away with drool and the easily accessible on/off switch. Tip: We keep this toy with our remotes (instead of the toy box) and occasionally pretend to use it ourselves... just in case his little mind catches on to us! :) 5Terrible message in the songs! This toy is great if you want your kids to learn how to sing songs about how great it is to watch to TV, and how they should spend all of their time watching TV. In other words, for parents who want their educational toys to be, oh, I don't know, actual education (rather than a bunch of songs encouraging kids to watch as many shows as possible, "So many channels, so little time!" sings the song), it's terrible. I bought the toy for my son because he loves buttons and music, and covets our TV remotes. This toy said it had educational songs and taught kids how to count - I figured it would be a win.So, so wrong. Here's how one of the songs go: "1,2,3,4,5 So many fun channels to watch live. 6,7,8,9, So many to watch, so little time!" Another says, "Gather 'round, to pretend, you're going to enjoy some TV shows with some friends." The second one is, admittedly, not so terrible. I just had no idea - even after re-reading the product description - that this toy would encourage TV watching. Partially, that's my mistake, but after re-reading the product description I think it's inadequate in regards to the song content. I thought it would be a fun button-pushing, counting and music toy. 112 month old loves this!My daughter was obsessed with our TV remote so I bought her this and pretended she wasn't allowed to have it (you know, some reverse psychology lol). She LOVES it now! 5Completely insufferableI obviously don't object to toys that make noise, or I wouldn't have bought this. However, I had no idea it makes noise EVEN WHEN THE CHILD IS NOT TOUCHING IT. It plays little recorded encouragements like "Let's change the channel!" when the child hasn't pushed any buttons in a few seconds. This defeats the entire purpose of a toy like this, which should be teaching cause and effect (push button, hear noise; push different button, hear different noise). Plus it's just annoying as all get out.It is at least attractive-looking and seems to be well made, and it does entertain my 8-month-old. I just hate it. 2Fun toy but it didn't fool our kid! We've had this remote for a few years and it's been entertaining. The batteries over the last 2 years have been changed twice and now going on the third.(Attached video so you can hear the voice on the toy remote)The yellow/purple ball when moved makes a few different sounds and laughs. The volume button it says, "volume up" "volume down"The red arrow button lists 9 channels. For example when it says, "Channel 6 - world Travel. Let's visit Paris." Then plays music. If left on it'll say, "let's change the channel" or start singing. It's a pretty neat toy. 4Funny songsMy 14 month old twins LOVE this remote! The songs are funny enough to be entertaining for adults which makes it a noisy toy that doesn't drive me completely nuts. "So many channels to watch, so little time!" lyric is my favorite :)Lots of buttons that all say something different. Lights flash too. They've dropped it on tile a bunch, so far no cracks in the plastic.Arrived quickly and on time! 5All the sounds are about watching TVThe idea is great, but (as others have said) all the sounds are centered around watching television. Each number is a "channel"--weather, movies, the game, etc. One ditty is about how little time there is to watch enough TV. Then you press the number pad, it doesn't say "1" or "2" but "channel 1" and "channel 2." Pretty sure this thing will teach my son the word "channel" before he learns anything else. I didn't expect this to be so heavily focused on television. Wish it was a little simpler--tunes, colors, numbers, etc. Maybe I should have expected that from a toy remote, but I didn't really--pretty disappointed. 2Early brainwashing at its best. This toy works great if brainwashing your toddler to watch endless TV is your goal. My 20 month old toddler received two "tv remotes" for Christmas. The first one had the silly songs I expected and focused on numbers and the alphabet. This one had songs about not having enough time to watch all the shows on TV they would want and having all your friends over to watch more tv. Maybe I'm making to much of it but it just wasn't the innocent nursery type stuff I expected. 1Just like a real remote!I was debating whether to purchase this Vtech toy remote control over the Fisher-Price one and ultimately what swayed me was the color and look of this one--the remote controls we happen to have in our house, that my eight month old son loves to grab and play with at any chance, are all black, whereas the Fisher-Price remote is gray. I wanted one that was as similar as possible to our "real" remotes. This play remote is really fun, with lots of buttons to press, and tons of different responses and songs. It even feels like a real remote when I pick it up and pretend to change channels just for fun sometimes before handing it to my son. I like that it has two different volume levels and fun colored flashing lights, and that the the buttons mimic actual real-life remote ones such as volume up and down control, up and down channel buttons, on and off buttons, number keys.Sure, some of the phrases may seem like they're encouraging TV watching (as I've read from other reviews here before purchasing, and listening to it myself) but really, my eight month old baby is not going to end up a couch potato TV addict because of some sing-songy repetitions on a toy ;) --that will be solely based on my parenting choices, so I'm not too worried about that aspect! 5
